Sunday January 31st From January of 1919

During my trip to the attic yesterday, I came upon my grandfathers photo album from his time in France during WWI.  Here are a few of the things I found in that album:

Thursday, January 28th Punishment and Reward

Who would have predicted, the wooden spoon that paddled me when I was five, would be stirring my Margaritas when I was 60?  What's it going to be doing 55 years from now?

Sunday, January 24th Wood for Sugaring

The wood pile was topped off and is ready for sugaring season with the addition of some pretty big logs.

Saturday, January 23rd Jewish Dinner

This meal really 'hit the spot' on this very cold winter night.

Chicken Soup with Matzo Balls

Maybe the best part of the meal.....crispy chicken skin to put on top of the beet salad

Ingredients for Golden Beet Salad with Schmaltz Vinaigrette

Knishes
Rugelach

Thursday, January 14th The Flower Arranging Begins

Mo looks over her flower order at the wholesaler

Before making any arrangements the flowers have to be unwrapped, recut and put into fresh water

Table arrangements underway

Wednesday, January 13th Gathering the Greens

Maurine gathered loads of evergreens from Pat and Larry's  to use in arrangements and bouquets for Mollie and Bryce's wedding.

Sunday, January 10th Ryan's Place

Ryan owns and lives on a large bit of land that straddles the town line of Hinesburg and Huntington on our road.  He's a real forager when it comes to outfitting his place and it's always fun to go by there to see what additions have been made.

Saturday, January 9th Out For a Run

It was  Don's first time out for a run for a long time.  He did great!  I guess playing hockey and clocking up the miles on the elliptical have helped to keep him in shape.
